Recovering Your Microsoft Password

With Microsoft being one of the best technology companies in the world, we have focused on how to recover your Microsoft password. You don’t need to be a computer expert to restore your password.

By the end of this tutorial, you will be able to reset your Microsoft password to something that you can easily remember.

Step 1 – Visit the Microsoft homepage

Go to the Microsoft Homepage by entering www.microsoft.com into your web browser

Step 2  – Enter your username

After entering your username, click the Next button. 

Step 3 – Locate the forgot my password link

You will be asked for your password. If you don’t remember your password, click on the Forgot my password link in the bottom-left of the page under the Keep me signed in check box.

Step 4 – Select an option

Once on this page, you are given options 3 options. You have to choose one as this allow Microsoft to know why you cant sign into your account. After selecting an option click the Next button.

Step 5 – Verification process

Microsoft now needs to verify your identity so they ask you how you want to receive your security code so that you may proceed to reset your password. From the many options you are given, select one that is best for you. The security code is sent to either an email or mobile device that you have access to.

Step 6 – Password reset code sent

Depending on the option you select, (i selected via email) the password reset code is sent to your email. Copy the code to proceed on resetting your password.

Step 7 – Copy & paste password reset code

Copy and paste the code that you received in the email. Click the Next button.

Step 8 – Verification of humanity

To recover your account, Microsoft has a security feature to make sure that it is not a robot performing this action. Type the characters you see in the requested field and click the Next button.

Step 9 – Create a strong new password

You will be sent to a page that contains a form with fields that allow you to set a new password. Make sure that you generate a new strong password that you will remember, and enter it into the fields presented then click the ‘Next’ button.

Step 10 – Finally, proceed to sign in

Once you have reset your password and recovered your account, you can click the ‘Next’ button and use your new security information to sign in.
